Main Methods of Increasing Minerals Liberation Selectivity In Processes of Ore Preparation for Beneficiation
The physical basis of ore preparation for concentration is the choosing of a rational process that would provide for high selectivity of disintegration. The selectivity of ore breakage entailing no slime generation can be obtained by creating in ore lumps a lattice of incipient fissures along the planes of grain interfaces. This may be achieved by rational mining (such as higher consumption of explosives, more compact drilling pattern, ignition timing control etc.) or by weakening ore strength prior to its feed into a grinding mill by using electric pulse impact or by inter-particle crushing. Examples are given on concentration of commonly treated and pre-weakened ores. Relative concentrate grade was found to be 30% higher and absolute recovery 8% higher. Pre-weakening of ores can make concentration plants more profitable.
