Research on the Effects of Microwave Radiation to the Strength of Ore

Grinding is one of the most important taches of mineral processing. But too much investment and energy are consumed by this process. It is always a hotly-discussed subject of how to save energy, to reduce consumption, and to increase the efficiency of grinding in this field. In this text, we, with finite elements methods, theoretically analyze the effect of microwave radiation on the strength of ore and determine how the compressive strength and micro hardness of manifold minerals are changing under microwave. Then the efficiency of grinding is increased. Some research shows that valuable minerals ineluding oxidized ore and chalcopyrite ore are obviously affected by microwave radiation, by significantly decreasing the strength of ore, however the gangue as quartz and calcite is not so easily affected by microwave radiation. Taking chalcopyrite copper as an example, the grind ability of minerals will be increased to 32.8% and the yield of 200 meshes to 11.37% by highenergy-intensified microwave radiation.
