Ferruginous Quartzite Destruction under High Ezplosion and Magnetic Effect

The article contains a brief description of the processes of destruction of crystalline heterogeneous materials (rocks), as a case study offerruginous quartzites under high explosion and magnetic effect. It also presents the results of the research into KMA (Kusrsk Magnetic Anomaly) ferruginous quartzites destruction under simultaneous effect of elastic stress waves and high pulsed magnetic fields (1 -1.5 T with a pulse length of nearly 100 μs). In contrast to the destruction of ferruginous quartzites occurring under the effect of elastic stress waves the effect of grain release was discovered under simultaneous exposure to high magnetic pulses and to a sudden drop of electrical resistance. In this case the highest effect is observed with the orthogonal orientation of the magnetic induction vector relative to the vector of elastic stress wave. Ultrasonic absorption (rate of decay) within a 0.3~5.0 MHz frequency range in samples of ferruginous quartzites increases 2-2.5-fold before and after their exposure to the effect of magnetic field. The results of the laboratory analysis of the samples treated as described above showed that energy intensity of fragmentation had reduced by 25%~30%, with a 0.5% increase of the iron yield for the concentrate. Therefore, the research results can be used for the development of few-process resource-saving technologies and equipment for ore dressing by blasting borehole drilling, mine working drivage in hard rocks.
