Application Research on Conflagration Caused by Blast of High Ezplosive and the Technique of Stopping Conflagration Via Ezplosion Suppression
Aims of Research: Our research project and relevant experiments focus: On the one hand, on deepening our understanding of hoth the mechanism of combustion of inflammables induced by blowing a high explosive and that of arresting such combustion by dint of explosion suppression. On the other hand, our research concentrates on developing a new technique that would turn both explosive combustion and explosive suppression to good account so as to boost overall productivity and riving condition of our people and sharpen the edge of our firefighting capacity. Approaches Adopted: (1) In the wake of a number of completed experiments in which only ammonal was used as an explosive, diverse commonly-used dynamites were employed in further experiments intended for performing a combined study for determining both how ignition was spontaneously set off by the blast of any of such dynamites and how such ignitions could be successfully extinguished. (2) A series ofexperiments were conducted for exploring the possibilities of putting out a forest fire or an oil-and-gas-well burning by means of an explosion suppression which was engendered by using merely such explosives as are permissible for use only in coal mine. Results: All our experiments point to the fact that the instant a high explosive goes off, its violent burst is bound to release a strong quenching effect upon a (nearby) conflagration, though the burst itself is, as a rule, liable to kindle such inflammable substances as gasoline. Conclusion: Both the capacity for starting explosive combustion and that for generating explosion suppression are qualities inherent in the detonation of a high explosive. Such qualifies can be turned to good account. Our experiments have proved that explosive suppression which is, theoretically speaking, akin to the method of blocking a holocaust through a vigorously imposed isolation can work very well to repel onslaught of conflagration and reasonably expect a particularly promising prospect when used as a firefighting expedient for eliminating forest fire and oil-and-gas-well blowout.
