Numerical Modeling of Seismic Effects on Underground Structures
Most of the Russian mines operate in regions there seismic and tectonic loads are present. Underground facilities built in areas subject to earthquake activity must withstand both static and seismic load. However, determination of seismic load is a formidable challenge due to complex geometry of underground structures, lack of initial field data and evident probahilistic character of earthquakes. An approach to quantify the seismic effects on underground mining based on the finiteelement method is described in the paper. Some results of numerical modeling of seismic effects at the deposit Kholodninskoe in the region of Lake Baikal are present in the given paper.
