The Impact of FDI on Self-Innovation Capability: A Comparison between Local and Foreign-Owned Firms in China

摘要：

China has become the largest recipient of FDI among the developing countries for 15 consecutive years. Whether FDI has a spillover effects on local firms and a positive impact on innovation capability of China while introducing advanced technology is a hot issue needs to be resolved. Using provincial data of 2002/05, this paper does some researches on foreign-owned and local firms respectively through empirical analysis, we find that FDI has positive impact both on foreign-owned and local firms, however, the impact on foreign-owned finns is more significant than local firms. This paper also proposes some policy recommendations which can enhance the efficiency of Chinas utilization of foreign investment.
