Empirical Research on the Relationship between M-Form and the Performance of Chinese Business Groups

摘要：

This paper goes deep into the study of Chinese diversified business groups and uses 356 samples from 2004-2006 listed companies with statistic method to find out the status quo of M-form adoption in diversified business groups and educes some results.First, there are four types of organization structure adopted in Chinese business groups in recent days and they are holding company, multidivisional form, unitary form and mixed form. Second, M-form can bring better performance to diversified business groups but the percentage of the adoption of M-form in Chinese business groups is not dominant. The result shows that multidivisional form can bring performance above industry average to Chinese business groups. And the top management team should pay more attention to this kind of organizational structure and should adopt it timely.
