An Empirical Study on the Impact of FDI on Economic Growth--the Case of Hubei Province in China
Foreign Direct Investment (FBI) plays an increasingly important role in economic development. Governments at all levels actively make preferential policies to encourage FDI and believe that the capital from FDI and its spillover effects can promote Chinas economic growth to a large extent. The situation of FDI in Hubei Province shows that the relationship between FDI and economic growth is not single but two-way. The regression analysis indicates that both the impact of FDI on economic growth and the enhancement of economic growth to FDI are remarkable. The difference of lag length leads to different Granger causality between FDI and GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Therefore we can not simply say that it is FDI that promotes the economic development and we can not always rely on the governments preferential policies to attract FDI. Scientific and technological progress is very critical in promoting economic development and attracting FDI.
