The Role of Organizational Capability in Choosing the Technological Innovation Approaches

This paper studies the theories of organizational capability and technological innovation, presents a conceptual model and relevant hypothesis. On analyzing the effective sample data from 682 enterprises of different industries across 10 provinces and cities in China, the empirical result confirms that organizational operational capability is conducive to incremental innovation and not conducive to radical innovation; while the stronger dynamic capability the enterprise has, the more likely it is to undertake radical innovation and incremental innovation. This reflects that enhancing dynamic capability is conducive to radical innovation and incremental innovation; while enhancing operational capability is only conducive to incremental innovation. Finally, under the common action of the two capabilities, the amounts of incremental innovation will be more than the amounts of radical innovation obviously.
