The Phenomenon of Chinese Born Global--from Entrepreneur Perspective, a Case of Suntech Power
With Chinas open policy and economy reform, China has achieved a great economic success. China government continues to liberalize outward FDI policies and encourage enterprises to invest overseas. Go global strategy proposed in 2001. Now, China is world No.3 in international trade and a big participant in foreign direct investment of developing economics. More and more Chinese firms go global by all means. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the internationalization of Chinese firms. Will they have distinct characteristics in internationalization? Or do they have some common features with MNCs from developed countries? During the last decade of 20th century, the emergence born globals was an interesting phenomenon of internationalization by firms from developed countries. During the international expansion of Chinese firms, are they such born globals? In this study, the author focuses on the role of entrepreneur in born globals, analyses the characteristics of entrepreneurs of born globals and does a case study of Suntech Power Holdings Co. Ltd. The author elaborates the Chinese born global, exploring the reasons why it is successful. It shows that Chinese born global has some common features with those from developed countries, and also has some special features.
