Evaluation of Enterprise Mass Customization Ability Based on Fuzzy Synthetic Method

The fundamental philosophy of Mass Customization (MC) is that enterprise will provide product to customers with a reasonable low price as well as satisfying their customized requirements. Briefly speaking, Mass Customization is a customization process of individualized products and services by means of Mass Production (MP). This new production mode combines those two contradictory modes (customization and mass production) together so that to provide products with mass production quality, speed and price, meanwhile it can realize the delivery of unique product with very small lot size to any individual requirement. In order to compare the Enterprise Mass Customization Ability (EMCA) of different enterprises, certain kinds of evaluating method can be used. By using fuzzy mathematical calculating rules, users can easily translate evaluators qualitative judgments into quantitative result, so that to provide substantial evidence to decision makers. Therefore, we choose fuzzy synthetic method to do the evaluation. With regard to the real-life case, a theoretic evaluation model based on fuzzy synthetic method is constructed. The fundamental estimating factors and relevant criteria for evaluating enterprise MC ability have been put forward. Furthermore, as an example, the course of fuzzy synthetic evaluation of EMCA is simulated on a certain manufacturer as well. The evaluation process and final result indicates that fuzzy synthetic method can help enterprise understanding their EMCA precisely and efficiently.
