Service Platform Design through Cluster Arithmetic

The role of platforms in product design and modularity is well known, only recently has it become more widely considered in services. A service platform can be considered a specific set of service functionality that is used across multiple services. It will improve response to customer requests, reduce sign and delivering cost, and improve time to market for companies. This paper describes a step-by-step method that aids companies in identifying service platform. Based on process analysis, a function relation matrix is examined to define the relationships between the service elements. We employ cluster arithmetic to determine common modules for multiple services being designed. To demonstrate implementation of the proposed method, we use a case study involving four pizza restaurant services.
