Reservoir Feature Study of Lower Cretaceous Sandstone of Zuunbayan Depression in Mongolia East Gobi Basin

Zuunbayan Depression is the first depression obtaining commercial oil flow in Mongolia,multiple sets of sand reservoir are developed from down to up in Lower Cretaceous of this depression and are fan delta facies and braided river delta facies sandstone (conglomerate). The main factors affecting reservoir property of sandstone are rock composition, diagenesis and sedimentary facies. Lower Cretaceous reservoir is lower in maturity of rock composition, higher and moderate in structure maturity and is dominated by feldspathic litharenite; reservoir space includes intergranular pore, intergranular dissolved pore, intragranular dissolved pore, shrinked intergranular dissolved pore, micro pore and micro fracture etc.six types. It mainly experiences various diagenesis including compression, cementation, metasomasis,recrystallizing conversion and solution of argillaceous matrix etc., in which compression, cementation and metasomasis are stronger and solution is weaker; based on physical property, reservoir is divided into high porosity-high permeability, moderate porosity-moderate permeability and low porosity-low permeability reservoirs; high porosity-high permeability reservoirs are mainly distributed in Upper Zuunbayan Formation, moderate porosity-moderate permeability reservoirs are distributed in Upper Member of Lower Zuunbayan Formation, however, Middle Member, Lower Member of Lower Zuunbayan Formation and Member II of Tsagaan Tsav Formation are mainly low porosity-low permeability reservoirs. Due to control of sedimentary facies belt, favorable reservoir area is distributed surrounding periphery of depression and sand body become thin toward lake basin direction with lower sand ground ratio. Reservoir feature study results and prediction of favorable reservoir area of Zuunbayan Depression is meaningful for oil and gas exploration of depression.
