Plug and Work at WISCO CSP(R) Process & Plant Simulation: Advanced SMS Siemag Technology to Shorten Commissioning Time
Chinas Wuhan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd., for WISCO for short, has awarded a contract to SMS Siemag, Germany,to design and construct a new two-strand CSP(R) (Compact Strip Production) plant. For this project SMS Siemag uses plug & work. In the past commissioning took a long time. This was due to technical interfaces of the equipment which were not harmonized and also because commissioning engineers had to wait until erection had already started before they could set up and test the electrical and automation system in the plant. Plug & work is a concept which has been developed by SMS Siemag for their customers with the aim of achieving a quick production start, an even faster ramp-up curve and hence a quicker return on investment. According to this concept, the entire electrical and automation system, from the control desks to the software, is installed in SMS Siemags test centre. By means of simulation, the complete electrical and automation system is tested and optimised before the actual commissioning commences. The operators and also the customers maintenance staff can be trained on their plant well in advance under realistic conditions of operation.Plug & work is thus characterised above all by quick commissioning and also by early attainment of the full production output. We wish to explain the plug & work concept to in greater detail by means of examples and also to show results of latest references based on empirical data.
