Improving the Mechanical Properties of API X-60 Through Thermomechanically Controlled Rolling

This paper presents a case study for improving the mechanical and metallurgical properties of API grades through optimization of the different thermomechanical parameters affecting the controlled rolling process. In controlled rolling of microalloyed steels (like API grades); there are two main controlling phenomena (recrystallization and precipitation), both play an important role in ferrite grain size and homogeneity which indeed affects the resulted mechanical properties. The critical parameters for thermomechanical processing like: critical strain (εc), reduction pattern (R %),reheating temp (TR), finishing temperature (Tf), percentage of microalloying elements (Nb%, V%) and other parameters were set at predefined values. Many simulation calculations were made to achieve the predicted results of API X-60. The study concludes that EZDK is capable to produce commercial production of API-X60 up to 11.1 mm thicknesses and widths up to 1600mm.
