Cable-Stayed Bridges in Shanghai where Chinese Recent Major Bridges Launched
Cable-stayed bridges are one of the most popular solutions for long span crossings. The design and construction techniques for this type of bridge have undergone significant development and improvement over the past several decades. Shanghai is one of the first cities in China to build modern long span cable-stayed bridges. The construction of the Nanpu Bridge in 1988 is regarded as the beginning of modern long span cable-stayed bridge construction in China. Shanghais cable-stayed bridges are described in this paper, with special attention devoted to experience gained during construction, structural characteristics, technological developments, and innovative techniques.
