Contaminant Migration Model with Clay Barrier Consolidation Dependent Transport Coefficients

Due to contaminant accumulation and the weight of capping, impervious barrier in the landfill liner would be consolidated. Beside initiate advection of contaminant, consolidation effect can change the structure and give rise to volume change of barrier. For this reason, transport coefficients, such as hydraulic conductivity and diffusion coefficient will be changed as the consolidation process. This paper considers the influence of barrier consolidation on transport coefficients and builds the contaminant transport model. Crank-Nicolson finite difference method is used to discrete the one-dimension mathematical model which describes the process of contaminant transport through deforming barrier. The computer program is developed to compute the distribution of contaminant concentration in the barrier, and analysis is given based on the computation results.
