The Seepage Characteristics Analysis for Xieka Concrete Face Rockfill Dam

Xieka concrete face rockfill dam has 45 to 100m overburden layers, which has strong permeability and the superficial layer of the dam foundation has deep silty sand layers. Meanwhile, the weak and strong unloaded zones are deep in horizon in which the fissures are mostly open. Therefore, it is necessary to analysis the seepage characteristics of the dam. On the basis of the engineering geological condition investigation, a three-dimensional finite element model is established, including the geological structure, formation lithology and the main structure of the dam, then the saturated surface, the groundwater contour, the seepage flux and the seepage gradient of the key parts are calculated. Based on these results, the seepage characteristic of the body and base of the dam, as well as the rock mass between banks are analyzed. Whats more, the rationality and effectiveness of the seepage control plans and the seepage stability of the dam are demonstrated and the optimization methods of the impervious curtain are thus put forwards.
