Influence of the Difference Slope Angles on the Crack Growth of the Gravity Dam Heel

Gravity dam heel is the area of stress singularity and it is critical in the stress analysis of the dams. In order to study the harm of the cracks on the dam heel, the finite element method is applied to the dam heel stress analysis. Using the finite element analysis software to describe the tension fracture, it simulates the stress evolution process of crack formation and growth on the juncture of the dam heel, analyzes the influence of crack formation with difference slope angles on the gravity dam and the laws of crack growth(Fig.l, Fig.2). Monitoring the relationship between the transformation of stress and displacement with the crack growth during the tension fracture process, it can record the change of the mechanical parameters of the monitoring points with the difference distances between the dam foundation.
