The microRNAseffects on the ezpression of target genes at mRNA and protein levels
BackgroundMicroRNAs (miRNAs), well known as posttranscriptional regulator, can regulate gene expression by binding to the 3 untranslated regions (3UTRs) of their target mRNAs 1. There are two mechanisms of miRNA-mediated repression: mRNA degradation and translational repression. So far, it is still unclear what determine the ways of miRNA-mediated repression of target genes. Majority of current studies to explore the mechanisms of miRNA-mediated repression only depends on analyzing single level of the gene expression data of target genes, either on microarray or proteomic profiles 2. Moreover, it is necessary to combine the expression level of miRNA itself with the target genes to detect the mechanisms.
