Identifying Conserved Regions for Protein Structure Prediction

BackgroundThreading is one of the most effective strategies for protein structure prediction. We observe from CASP7 that for a given target sequence, threading methods usually generate many structures that are partially similar to the native structure. This observation inspires us that a threading decoy can be partitioned into conserved regions and non-conserved regions. Identifying conserved regions from multiple decoys is important to improve structure prediction. The subject of this paper is two-fold:designing efficient methods to identify conserved regions, and then applying these conserved regions to improve protein structure prediction.
