Classification of RpoS regulon in Burkholderia pseudomallei based on proteomic profile information

BackgroundBurkholderia pseudomallei is a gram-negative bacteria that causes melioidosis in humans and animals. B. pseudomallei RpoS (sigmaS or 038) is the master regulator and its transcriptional level is regulated by growth phase reaching a peak upon entry into stationary phase and responded to several stress condition such as carbon starvation and oxidative stress. Escherichia coli RpoS protein can recognize the -10 and -35 promoter elements similar to RpoD protein, but not identical. The RpoS-dependent promoters have unique sequences, especially at the -10 promoter element which is CTATACT (from -13 to -7 positions on DNA sequence). The nueleotide C at the -13 position is important roles for strongest expression and RpoS selectivity.ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate RpoS regulon in B. pseudomallei and classify these genes into putatively direct and indirect control by RpoS.
