Computational characterisation of human lamina associated domains
BackgroundFor about 50 years, scientists have wonderedhow two metres of DNA are organised inside ahuman cell nucleus of approximately 10mm indiameter. It was speculated that the nuclearlamina, a protein shell surrounding the nuc-lear interior, acts as a scaffold that organisesthe DNA. Our recent study 1 identified>1000 very large (0.1-10Mb), sharply definedsegments of the human genome that are at-tached to the lamina, termed lamina asso-ciated domains (LADs).
