Protein Maps: Integration of Physico-Chemical Properties for Functional Annotation of Proteins

BackgroundThe contribution of conserved residues toward biochemical function is determined by the interactions formed with substrates, cofactors, and other residues. We thus hypothesize that correlated mutations of physico-chemical (sequence based properties) interactions between residues reveal evolutionary residue conservation patterns that are unique to homologous proteins. In this poster, we report a unique representation scheme, protein maps for a given protein. The protein maps are aimed at capturing structural makers across a myriad of physico-chemical properties. We have used a wavelet-based analysis and reported regions of functional significance in the protein. We have carried out and reported further validations which support our study.
