Physical encoding based bioinformatics analysis for ezploring protein sorting signals
BackgroundProtein sorting is the mechanism used by the cell to transport proteins to the appropriate locations within or outside the cell. With rapid accumulation of protein signal peptides and protein localization data1, bioinformatics algorithms have been developed to predict protein targeting signals and protein localizations. Here we apply a physical encoding method combined with localization classification to analyze the structures of sorting signals targeting different subcellular locations.Data & MethodsWe developed an amino acid index based physical encoding for localization prediction and applied to a reduced non-redundant protein sequence set used by Bacello algorithm for comparing protein localization predictors 2.
