An approach to the recovery of associations between protein domains and complez diseases
BackgroundThe application of gene-mapping techniques in modern human and medical genetics has been revolutionizing biomedical studies in searching for nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms(nsSNPs) underlying complex diseases and locating genes responsible for these diseases. Typically, a protein is composed of several structural domains, each of which is closely related to a specific function of the protein. It is therefore reasonable to assume that harmful nsSNPs alter structures of protein domains, affect functions of proteins, and finally cause disorders. With this understanding, we explore the possibility of recovering associations between protein domains and complex diseases with the use of domaindomain interaction network.
