Application of 2D Entropic Segmentation Method Basedon Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm
Image segmentation represents the first step in many applications in image understanding. Thresholding is a simple and important method in image segmentation. Two-dimensional entropy uses both the gray value of a pixel and the local average gray value of it, and thus provides better results than that of one-dimension entropy. But for more accurate thresholding, much more time has to pay. Hence, the proposed method introduces Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm into two-dimensional entropy method to overcome its drawback of computationally expensive. Experimental results show that the proposed method can reveal very encouraging results in terms of the quality of solution found and the processing time required.
