A DATA MINING APPROACH TO EXTRACTING CHARACTERISTIC RULES

Data mining is one of the most popular technologies that can extract customers knowledge from business database and is capable of detecting potential patterns and rules underlying the data. One of the issues of data mining application in customer relationship management is discovering characteristic rules. This paper proposes a method of mining characteristic rules. Our work focuses on discovering characteristics which are (1) general, covering part of cases to some extent, and (2) unique, distinguishing the concept with others. The result of the experiment shows that this approach is effective.
