Study on Gross Control in Zhangweinan Canal Sub-Basin

Zhangweinan canal sub-basin is the most important area for the pollution control in Hai River basin. It has very serious water resource conflicts and water pollution problems. At present, the total discharged amount of pollutants in this area has greatly exceeded the capacity-of water environment. Therefore, it is urgent to carry out the gross control of water pollution. Based on the baseline survey report of Zhangweinan sub-basin and data collected from the local water environment management departments, the capacity of water environment of Zhangweinan sub-basin was calculated with the result of 30410.71 t/a for CODMn and 1433.03 t/a for NII3-N. Then, the maximum pollutant load and required pollutant reduction were allocated for each pollution source. Until 2010, all the pollutant concentrations in wastewater from outlets in Zhangweinan Canal Sub-basin should meet the wastewater discharge standards by cutting down pollutant discharges. The reduced amounts of CODMn and NH3-N are 57220 and 9662 t/a respectively. Until 2020, the gross pollutant discharge from Zhangweinan Canal Sub-basin would be equal or less than the environmental capacities. The reduced amounts of CODMn and NH3-N are 132536 and 5693 t/a respectively. According to this plan, the water environment of Zhangweinan sub-basin can be gradually recovered.
