Study on Relationship between Polluted River Water and Riparian Groundwater
Surface water and groundwater (SW-GW) are undivided components of the hydrologic system. Development or contamination of the former commonly affects the water quality of the latter. Understanding the SW-GW interactions is critical to evaluating the structure of river eco-system, river restoration and riparian management. The authors analyzed such interactions in a reach of Weihe river using hydrochemical analysis method. The results indicated that the polluted river had already contaminated shallow groundwater, while due to natural attenuation within the SW-GW seepage zone, contamination of groundwater was limited to a certain range.
