Teachers as Foot-soldiers serving Cultural Duties: A Reflection on teacher leadership and learning community in Chinese schools
The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the discourse on leadership in learning society by providing an indigenous view on the ideas and practices of teacher leadership and learning community, both of which are relatively new concepts borrowed from the West. By placing the two concepts in the organizational context of Chinese schools, it argues that the influence of culture and history, coupled with structural constraints, have persistently challenged the emergence of teacher leaders and learning community.
