LEADING LEARNERS WITH A GLOBAL DIMENSION: BUILDING WHOLE-SCHOOL ApROACHES TO GLOBAL LEARNING
In England, development education practitioners have been suporting and enhancing school-level and curriculum suport for the Global Dimension for over 30 years. Within the English curriculum, learning and understanding about the wider world has also been present, most notably within the social sciences, religion and science. More recently, several revisions of the National Curriculum have heightened the prominence of global issues and learning. For example, the 2000 revision highlighted the importance of global education and learning by introducing terms including: preparing pupils for the Global Dimension of their lives. In 2007, the Key Stage 3 curriculum review situated the Global Dimension as one of the 5 cross-curricula dimensions.
