Strategies of Intellectual Property Management Based on Latecomer Firms Different Innovative Paths: Case Study of Three Manufacturers in China
Latecomers advantage points out that latecomer firm (LCF) has opportunities to development their technological capabilities in developing emerging technologies, ‘re-inventing and improving mature technologies. This paper takes the digital TV (DTV) of ‘Changhong, hot tandem mill of ‘Erzhong and the technology of 2 filaments with 1 spindle of ‘Grace as examples to analyze the strategies of intellectual property (IP) management of LCFs based on different innovative paths. Our research indicates that LCFs still have opportunities to accumulate and utilize IP to develop innovative capabilities and appropriate the gains from innovation in spite of the internationalization of the IP regime. In order to do so, it is vitally necessary for LCFs to determine the key of IP management and implement appropriate strategies according to different industrial technology and innovative path.
