Firm Size, Profitability and Innovation Inputs: An Empirical Study
This paper examines the relation between firm size and manufacturing firms innovation inputs, and the impact of firms profitability on innovation inputs, using Zhejiang Economic Census Data for the year 2004. The results reveal that for all manufacturing firms, firm size is an important factor to affect firms innovation inputs, and there is significant linear relationship between firm size and innovation inputs, and inverted U relationship between firm profitability and innovation inputs. However, this paper finds that as to determinants of innovation inputs, there is great discrepancy among different industries. Also, this paper shows firms innovation inputs for different type firms.
