Chinese Corporations Out-ward R&D Internationalization: From a Viewpoint of Raising Innovation Efficiency
Basing on the facts of Chinese corporations overall technological progress and the reducing potential of spillovers assimilation, this article analyzes the necessity to participate in international innovation for Chinese domestic corporations by outward R&D internationalization. The status of transnational corporations (TNC) R&D investment in China, Chinas current situation of technology compared with developed economies, and overseas centers of excellence for innovation are analyzed using data from Main Science and Technology Indicators by OECD. The results are: China can not provide good conditions to attract state of the art technological activities, and TNCs invest on R&D mainly for the prorpose of market augmenting. Thus taping into world innovation networks actively by outward R&D is a good choice for Chinese relatively stronger domestic corporations aiming at raising innovation efficiency and technical level.
