Chinese Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Internationalization Strategy: Current Research Review and Future Recommendations
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) internation-alization strategy and operation have gained in popularity over the last decade. However, research on the Chinese SMEs international strategy has not kept up with this trend. While there is considerable research in the area, it is unfortunately fragmented, leaving gaps that need to be addressed. Herein, we examine the theoretical perspectives and research findings on Chinese SMEs international strategy from two perspectives: SMEs internationalization theory foundation and Chinese SMEs internationalization research. Current research on this topic is tabulated and grouped by theoretical stream to indicate major findings. Most importantly, we identify gaps in the literature and highlight some important research issues that provide directions for future research.
