Passive Ranging Based on Observability Analysis and Receding Horizon Filter
In angle-only target tracking the aim is to estimate the relative state of a target and platform using measurement of elevation and azimuth. In the case of both the target and platform travel with constant velocity, the angle measurements not provide any information of the range between the target and the platform. The platform has to maneuver to be able to estimate the range to the target. The passive ranging is investigated for exoatmospheric aerocraft in this paper. The contribution of the paper is twofold. First the observability of passive ranging is analyzed based on singular values decomposition of observability matrix. Based on observability and Cramer-Rao Lower Bounds(CRLB), the maneuver strategy for improving observability is derived. Second, in order to estimate relative state of target and platform, the receding horizon filter is used. The simulation results show the effectiveness of proposed method.
