A Study on Longitudinal Stability and Configuration of Wing-in-Ground Effect based on CFD

The longitudinal stability characteristics of a Wing-in-Ground effect craft are quite different from the conventional airplane due to the existence of ground effect. The relationship between longitudinal stability and configuration of Wing-in-Ground effect was investigated based on the CFD methods. The three important factors influencing longitudinal stability were taken into consideration. Flow around wings in ground effect and aerodynamic centers of pitch and height were presented. Contributions of the aerodynamic centers of pitch and height to longitudinal stability were studied respectively. The study resulted in deep understanding of longitudinal stability criterion and provided references for designers and operators of Wing-in-Ground effect craft theoretically.
