Effect of Drilling Process on Fatigue Life of Open Holes
In this paper, dog-bone specimens which the holes are drilled by the traditional drilling process and advanced Winslow drilling process, are fatigue tested to study the effect of drilling pr ocess on fatigue behavior of open holes. Based on the equivalent initial flaw size method and coincidence criterion, the initial fatigue qualities of holes with two different drilling processes are calculated. Fatigue fracture surfaces are analyzed by stereomicroscope. The results show that: The location where the fatigue crack initialization is unchanged when these two different drilling process es are used. The longer the fatigue life is, the more the dispersibility of fatigue life is. With the Winslow drilling process, equivalent initial flaw size is smaller than 0.125mm. Winslow drilling process meets the requirement of coincidence criterion.
