A Study on Optimum Depth of Barrier Wall in Permeable Dam Foundation
Water-repellence of thick overburden under dam base was one of the key problems for dam construction. It had been used in several dam projects that the plastic concrete Wa-ter-barrier and grouting purdah were as waterproof system. The water-barrier construction impropriated the time limit for such project. So, It should been shorted as possible. To stud-y the optimum depth of water-barrier was needed. A parse solution for grads downwards the water-barrier was deduced based on the drag index methods. And it was studied in detail that the law of grads downwards the water-barrier vibrated with its depth increased. The results show that the depth of water-barrier in limited thick overburden was not the deeper the bet-ter. by contraries, it was sure that there was an optimum depth, in which grads downwards the water-barrier was the least. The value of the optimum depth was rest with the depth of the overburden. In general, when the relative depth ratio between the depth of water-barrier and overburden was about 0. 7, when grads downwards the water-barrier was at the least.
