Seepage Force and Slope Sliding Computation

Saturated seepage flow is an important role to cause unstable of soil-rock mass. In this paper the seepage induced destruction force, the passive buoyant force and the active seepage force are described. The mutual converted relation between seepage force and boundary water pressures as well as their correct application in piping and slope sliding prob-lems are discussed in detail. Especially using seepage force instead of boundary force in slope sliding computation is recommended for its merit of simplicity and accuracy. Finally the mis-understand or mistake of seepage force in computation and in design code is criticized.
