Discussion on Water-container of Earth Dam
Most earth dams were built in the 50s to 60s last century in China. The leakage is widespread in these projects due to various different and complicated causes. Earth dam wa-ter-container is formed and filled with water in special region of earth dams, which became a newly emerged project expression. Typical water-containers exist in the dam of Landong Reservoir in the Gongcheng County of Guangxi. Leakage problems emerged in higher parts of the downstream slope since the completion of the reservoir, and remains even when the water level is very low. After a study on earth dam water-container, a concrete cutoff wall was built in the dam body as well as a curtain grouting program for abutment foundation to resolve the long-term dam leakage problems. The formation conditions and characteristics of water-container is researched and analyzed by Landong Reservoir. The results provide valua-ble technological support for the construction of the dam and give important references for similar projects.
