Investigation and Analysis of the Failure of the Mechanism of Reinforced Dams
In recent years, China has provided more funds for dam rehabilitation. A large number of dangerous reservoirs are modified in a short period of time. This has resulted in the general improvement of clam safety in China. However, some clam failure happened dur-ing the implementation of reinforcement project or after the modification, which indicated some important elements that can not be ignored in the reinforcement of defective and dan-gerous reservoirs. Based on the investigation and analysis of four dam-break cases of dam re-inforcement projects, this paper tries to find out the failure mechanisms from the aspects of dam safety appraisal, the review of appraisal results, the preliminary design and its review of the reinforcement project, construction quality control, inspection and acceptance, operation and management, etc. and draw lessons from them. Recommendations and countermeasures for the improvement of dam reinforcement projects are put forward in administrative, techni-cal and cognitional aspects.
