Laws of Dam-failures of Small-sized Reservoirs and Countermeasures in China
According to the statistic data of dam-failures of the small-sized reservoirs between 1980 and 2006, the statistics are done by history period, dam type, dam height, destructive positions, dam-failure reasons, the months of failure time and the regions, then the reasons and laws of dam-failures are analyzed. At present, the number and ratio of dam-failures is very low. It is due to the great improvement in dam safety management of small-sized reser-voirs by implementation of correlative laws and regulations and standards, and jointing with the engineering construction of endangered reservoirs. Experience is summarized from statis-tics and typical cases. Considering different reasons of dam-failures, such as inadequate spill-way capacity or jammed spillway, poor engineering quality containing seepage in the connec-tion of new dam and old dam, improper management etc., countermeasures for dam safety of small-sized reservoirs are researched.
