SPATIAL INTERPOLATION OF RAINFALL BASED ON DEM
A modified cokriging based on DEM(MCK) is developed in this paper, which could increase the impact of elevation in the spatial interpolation of rainfall by avoiding all secondary data weights to summing to zero while the unbiased estimation of this method is ensured. This technique is illustrated using monthly rainfall observations in Luan River basin. Cross validation is used to compare the prediction performance of MCK with Thiessen polygon, Inverse square distance, OK and CK. Results show that smaller prediction errors are obtained by MCK that account for elevation as a secondary variable to interpolate monthly rainfall. Additionally, MCK could yield more accurate predictions than OK when the correlation coefficient between rainfall and elevation is more than 0.71 in the case study.
