CONNOTATION AND EVALUATION INDICATORS SYSTEM OF RIVER HEALTH

The assessment of river health is one of the hotspots in the current river ecology research. The scientific connotation of river health is discussed from the viewpoints of natural and social properties of rivers. The health of a river is regarded as the appraisal of its life and the assessment of its current situation. A health river must be a river with equilibrium of natural function and social function. The evaluation indicators system for river health is established based on international and national research of fiver health, following scientific, practical and concise principles. It includes an objectives layer, a rule layer with 5 factors and an indicator layer with 20 defined indexes. The integrative assessment model of river health assessment is proposed exploringly, together with five-grade identification standard described as very healthy, healthy, sub-healthy, unhealthy and sick.
