EXPERIMENTS ON POLLUTANT TRANSPORT OF CENTERLINE DISCHARGE INTO THE BRAIDED RIVER
The mechanism of the pollutant transport in the braided river is not clear at present compared with that in the straight and bend river. The pollutant distribution in the braided channel with a mid-bar between two anabranches was studied by the physical model in this paper. The mid-bar is rhombic, and it looks like a diamond. Moreover the width of two anabranches could be changed by moving the mid-bar. The tracer was discharged from a submerged round outlet located at the centerline of straight flume before bifurcation. The tracer was salt water, and its density was adjusted to that of the flume water by adding ethyl alcohol. Concentration and velocity distributions with different upstream flowrate and different flowrate ratios of two anabranches were measured. The results reveal that the upstream flowrate plays little role on the distribution of pollutant, while the flowrate ratio of two anabranches is the major factor.
