NUMERICAL STUDY ON MIXING CHARACTERISTICS OF ELLIPTIC JETS IN CO-FLOW
In this paper, the CFD code FLUENT was used for numerical study about the elliptic jets in co-flow. The realizable k~ε model was adopted for turbulent closure of the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The mixing characteristics such as centerline dilution, jet spread width, velocity and concentration profiles at different downstream stations were computed and validated by the physical experimental data. In order to compare the dilution effect of different nozzles in geometry, the mixing characteristics of traditional round jets were also computed. The compared results showed that the elliptic jets had much better dilution effect than the round jets when they had the same exit excess momentum. Axis-switching is an often happened phenomenon in elliptic jets, by investigating the vorticity field of elliptic jets, the mechanism of axis-switching phenomenon was stated.
