A STUDY ON WATER QUALITY MODELING OF SEONAKDONG RIVER USING CE-QUAL-RIV1
Numerous water quality models are in existence, but most were developed for steady flow conditions and are not appropriate when time-varying flows are to be considered. The Seonakdong River is an impound stream whose flowrate is controlled by the Daejeo and Noksan gates,so a constant flow does not exist. In contrast, pollutants have been constantly flowing into the river. The Daejeo gate is located upstream and the Noksan gate is downstream of the Seonakdong River. The Seonakdong River is an estuarine tributary of the Nakdong River and it is reservoir-like river used for agricultural irrigation with gates, at the river mouth to protect the intrusion of saline. To resolve these problems and obtain better water quality from the Seonakdong River, controlling the flowrate and velocity through optimum gate operation is required. The unsteady model, CE-QUAL-RIVI, has been chosen for comparative simulations. It has the ability to simulate varying flows and waste loads. This study has focused on verifying the variations in the water quality through inflow and outflow increase and long-term water quality prediction. The objective of this study is to determine the appropriate flowrate for obtaining better water quality from the Seonakdong River.
