NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF HYDRODYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS AND WATER QUALITY IN YANGCHENGHU LAKE
Yangchenghu Lake is located in the North-East of Suzhou city in Jiangsu province, the third large freshwater lake in Taihu Lake Basin. It acts as the regulating center of water system in Yangcheng region. Yangchenghu Lake is a broad-shallow lake that its current is driven mainly by the surface wind and its tributaries. To simulate the lake current more precisely, a three-dimensional flow numerical model is established here with curvilinear orthogonal grid in horizontal direction and sigma coordinate in vertical direction by Delft3D. It simulated the 3D hydrodynamic characteristics of the lake under wind and inflows/outflows and calculated the water exchange among the different water bodies of the lake. Based on the former, a two-dimensional water quality numerical mode was established to simulate the pollutants diffusion and transportation and the simulated results were analyzed. In order to improving water quality of the lake, reducing the pollutant concentration from the tributaries would be effective, especially reducing that from Yanglintang (RW2) and Weijingtang (RW1) in winter. The research in this paper would be useful to guide the water environment management of Yangchenghu Lake in the future.
